Beating the Blues in Style: Wearing Blue on Blue Monday
How Blue Clothes and Accessories Can Lift Your Mood and Elevate Your Style
It makes me smile when people declare “I can wear blue” or “I can’t wear blue” (or any other colour…). Aside from yellow, which can be notoriously tricky for some, most of us have at least one flattering shade of blue, green, red and so on. Since it’s Blue Monday, let’s turn that frown upside down and celebrate this fabulous hue, blue, for the way it can brighten your mood and effortlessly lift your style.
Embrace Different Shades of Blue for a Fresh Start:
Denium is an easy go to. from light washed out blue to deep inky blues. Take a look at the shade you go for and consider trying other shades.
If you often wear black, swap it out for Navy. If you have lightness in your colours look for Light Navy or French navy. If you have darker eyes and hair, look for Deep navy or black blue.
There is such a thing as a warm blue and a cool blue, a light blue and a dark blue and a soft blue or a bright blue. Take a look at my recomendations above based on your dominant colour type. See if it blends into your wardrobe seamlesly.
Layer Blue to Add Depth and Dimension
Use different shades on different layers. If you are bloated or feel concious of an area like the bottom, tummy on chest use a darker blue on that area. Add lighter shades of blue on areas you like. For example,
Pear shapes: Darke blue jeans, white t shirt light blue blazer.
Apple: Light blue wide leg trousers, Navy blouse and Navy waterfall jacket/blazer.
Add those finish touch layers like sapphires or lapis in your jewellery or a blue patterned scarf and navy eyeline.
Accessorize with Blue for Subtle Elegance
There are many ways of adding blue to your look. You might try blue mascara, eyeliner, or eyeshadow to introduce a subtle or bold pop of colour. Don’t forget those all-important finishing touches like glasses, jewellery, belts, scarves, and bags to tie everything together. If your whole outfit is just a T-shirt and jeans, consider adding blue accessories to lift and complete your look.
Transition From Winter to Spring
Blue is a fantastic colour to bridge winter into spring. It can serve as a neutral when you choose deeper tones like navy or sapphire, or as a complementary staple such as friend navy. Alternatively, blue can act as a striking pop or fashion colour—think aqua or cobalt blue. Consider selecting darker shades for the colder months and lighter, airier blues as the weather warms. On a dull day, wearing your favourite blue can lift your mood; often the colours we’re naturally drawn to are the ones that suit us best. If you frequently receive compliments on a particular shade, that’s a useful clue. If you’re unsure, give me a call to arrange a colour analysis and discover your best shades in every hue.
Did you know that the colour blue can have many psychological effects, often evoking feelings of calm, serenity, and trust in people. At the same time, depending on context and intensity, it can also be associated with sadness, loneliness, and a sense of lethargy..
