La Dolce Vita

The ‘La Dolce Vita’ trend is a nod to the Italian lifestyle and the 60’. It means ‘Sweet life’.

I first noticed it in rural France at shops like Speak and boutique stores in St Junien. Beautiful bright random patterns adorning shirts and skirts. It took me a while to dicover more about this trend but I love it’s warms and colourful charm. I talked about fruit such as lemons, cherries, tomatoes and strawberrys trending this summer, but now I undertand, it’s an evolution or simplification of both ‘La Dolce Vita’ and ‘Tomatoe Girl Summer’ trends that have been bubbling for the past 4 or 5 years each summer.

On my journey home from France this May, I wondered through Primark at Citi Europe Shopping Center and the boutique stores in the south of France. I found large collections of women, men and children garments in this Italian inspired print. I fell in love.

Looking back at old catwalks it reminds me of the Dolce & Gabbana Spring Summer 2021 collection with it’s hot summer prints.

Think romantic, floaty beautiful silhouette, scarfs and big glasses. Pints often include fruit like lemons and scene of being by the sea. Fish, crabs, palm trees and birds may also be included.

The current trends to look out for inspired by La Dolce Vite are the Tomato girl summer (Sp/Sum 24). A new bright, vibrant and more playful nod to the trend. You may also notice palm trees, sardine tins and the beach in these print.

When looking to add this trend to your wardrobe, consider if the garmet fits wells. Stylist friends are reporting that the co-ord trouser and shirt sets tend to come in a high rise and long leg, so are difficult for a more petite frame. Primark and a few others have short and top sets that may work better. Look for soft and floaty fabric if you are curvy, or stuctured and crisp if you are straight.

Much of this trend is from previous old trends, with the environment and sustainability at the forefront of a lot of design choices, repeat and reuse of prints, fabrics and looks is an ongoing trait on the catwalk.

If this trend scare you a little, why not add just a splash of it in a bag or accessesory? I’m obsessesd with the Kurt Geiger bag and Trend Tonic lemons.

Will you be adding these to your 5 a day? Have you already invested in this trend in previous years?
